Ever since Bishop Arts Floral closed, it has been hard to find a nice bouquet of flowers for that special occasion. But thanks to the creative and entrepreneurial spirit of Umi and David Brochstein, Installation Floral at 408 W. Davis is more than filling the void.

Umi and David have the store stocked with fresh flowers, teas imported from , and gifts from local artisans. They also offer local delivery as well as floral design for weddings and special events.

It’s places like Installation Floral that give us CliffDwellers one less reason to cross the river.

Obama in Bishop Arts

OK, Barack isn’t really coming to the Bishop Arts District, at least not that we know of, but the Dallas County Democratic Party will be hosting its county-wide election night watch-party in November in the District.

Complete with street closures, big screen TVs, stages and all the local politicians you can shake a stick at, it’s estimated the party could draw upwards of 1,000 people to the Cliff.

We’ve heard the Republicans are planning to host their party at Fuel City on Cesar Chavez Boulevard, or is it Industrial Boulevard? (Just kidding: We actually have no knowledge of their party plans at this point.)

CityGallery to host art event in alley

The First Thursday event in the Bishop Arts District Thursday, Sept. 4, just got a little more interesting. CityGallery, an art initiative through the local Church in the Cliff, will be hosting an art exhibit in the alley between Artisans Collective and The Soda Gallery. The show is designed to call attention to the upcoming Dallas City Council vote on wages for sanitation workers.

Details on the show can be found at citygallerydallas.org.
