Delia Jasso, running for Dallas City Council District 1, will be holding a private fundraiser at Cafe Madrid in the Bishop Arts District this evening. Jasso is running for the spot currently held by Mayor Pro Tem Elba Garcia, who will be vacating her office in May because of term limits.

Jasso is a former Dallas Park Board member, appointed by Garcia, who says she believes Jasso would do very well in the City Council position (though no official endorsement at this time). Garcia is considering a run for a Dallas County Commissioner seat when she leaves office in May — "considering" being the key word, since any announcement would require her to step down from her current office.

According to Jasso’s e-mail, it looks like supporters and sponsors at tonight’s event will be former City Councilwoman Veletta Forsythe Lil, former Councilman Craig McDaniel, and Lake Cliff residents Beverly and Michael Mendoza.
