The Morning News is reporting that non-noncontract workers will be laid off Thursday, while teacher will receive their termination notices Oct. 15. Principals received the timelines Monday. The layoffs are a first step toward reducing the district’s $64-$84 million deficit; DISD still faces about a $15 million additional deficit for the year, even after the layoffs. No word yet on how that gap will be closed.
