Neighbors’ feedback shaped Councilman Dave Neumann‘s decision to vote for a smoking ban in today’s City Council meeting, the councilman says in a District 3 newsletter he sent out today.

"There will still be smoking allowed in outside patios and open air spaces of bars and billiard halls," Neumann clarifies in his newsletter.  "To be honest, my biggest concern is the very idea of government dictating individual rights. And yet, in the 18 months since you elected me your councilperson, no other issue has generated as much constituent feedback as the expansion of Dallas’ smoking ordinance. In great numbers, you told me that you value businesses that are free of smoke. You have told me that this is a public health issue that affects public health care dollars. … Your voice was my vote."
