I sat in on a portion of the Bishop Arts District Merchants Association meeting earlier this week, when property and business owners were listening to a presentation on the Bishop/Davis land use study, and how rezoning might affect the shopping district. The merchants had diverse reactions, some feeling like the rezoning proposal could shut out independent retailers and turn Bishop Arts into West Village, and others excited about the changes because they are discontent with current levels of business.

This week’s was the first of a series of neighborhood meetings on the land use study, and the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League has a schedule of each one on its website, as well as lots of other helpful information, like a description of the various areas where rezoning is proposed, and a map of the area included in the study.
Tomorrow at 9 a.m., study facilitator Larry Good of Good, Fulton & Farrell (the architecture firm’s leadership is being funded by various neighbors and businesses) will meet with Kings Highway neighbors at Kessler Park United Methodist Church, and next Monday night at 7 p.m. will meet with members of the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League at the Cliff Cafe.

Meetings with the rest of the neighborhoods who would be affected by any zoning changes will take place between now and Jan. 22, and the committee of neighbors appointed by Councilmen Elba Garcia and Dave Neumann will review all of the feedback, and present any revisions to the plan at the community-wide meeting on Jan. 26.

The plans can be downloaded in PDF form here. (It’s a 10 MB file, so it may take some time.)
