This weekend: Art for Darfur, Heart to Heart, La Reunion TX tree carving and more

Art for Darfur holds its kick-off dinner this Friday, from 7 -10 p.m. at the Oak Cliff home of Rev. Laura Fregin of Church in the Cliff. Art for Darfur is a movement in Dallas of students, artists, activists, faith communities, educational institutions and non-profit organizations who recognize the power of community art to raise funds and awareness for the crisis in Darfur, Sudan. Methodist Hospital holds its free Heart to Heart seminar this Saturday from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Since heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States, this event includes plenty of fun demonstrations to get fit and stay healthy, including free screenings for those who register.

Wander through the future home of La Reunion TX this Saturday from noon-4 p.m., when the artist residency program presents a tree-carving event, with designs from local artists created from trees on the site, and Texas Discovery Gardens docents will lead nature tours.

Haley-Henman Gallery hosts a conversation with Amalia, the artist whose work the gallery is currently exhibiting, from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday.

Neighborhood band Bona Fide Blues will be jammin’ at Jack’s Backyard on Saturday night, starting at 9 p.m.
