Not only is it Animal Welfare Approved, but neighborhood ranchers Gary and Lauren Nitschke of Nitschke Natural Beef (featured in March’s Oak Cliff Advocate) have now been certified by the American Grassfed Association.

It is one of seven beef ranches that was certified under the association’s sustainability standards this week. The association represents more than 300 grass-fed livestock producers, and says its standards are more stringent than the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s, which requires only a forage diet. The American Grassfed Association requires not only a total forage diet, but also prohibits confinement, antibiotics and added hormones.
