You’ll find information on the art crawl listed in the happenings section of April’s Oak Cliff Advocate magazine, delivered to your doorstep beginning this weekend, but by then, the deadline for artist submissions will have passed.

It’s a first-time event, organized and sponsored by Bike Friendly Oak Cliff (a blog from neighborhood resident Jason Roberts) and photopol.us (a blog from neighborhood resident Andrea Roberts, who is married to Jason). The pair came up with the idea after talking to urban planner Zac Lytle, who manages the 9th Street Townhome properties, among others. Lytle was looking for a way to promote the townhomes, and the Robertses were wanting to hold an art show, so "really it all meshed pretty well," Jason Roberts says.

They decided to turn two of the townhomes into makeshift art galleries, then decided it would be a good idea to show off the Texas Theatre (Jason is the chairman of the Oak Cliff Foundation board of directors, which is revitalizing the theater), and then decided to invite other galleries to get involved — including the Ice House Cultural Center, Decorazon, Soda Gallery and Cube Creative (a new gallery on Tyler Street) — and hold an art crawl across the neighborhood. The event will "show the proximity to everything and how everything is connected," Jason Roberts says.

Andrea Roberts is working to find art for the theater and the two townhomes, and she is accepting all mediums. Any creative types are urged to their work (no submission fee) to info@photopolus.com by March 27. Find submission details here. The big event will be Saturday, April 25 from 4-9 p.m.; art will remain up in the townhomes and theater until May 10.
