Among the interesting things that neighbor Paul Maute conveyed at this morning’s briefing on the Bishop/Davis study was bewilderment that neither of our neighborhood’s plan commissioners has yet called for a public hearing on the study, which has been conducted since May 2008, and has changed little since its presentation to neighbors in late January 2009.

The advisory committee studying possible land uses along Bishop and Davis believed that one of the two plan commissioners representing our neighborhood would begin the official process in April by calling for public hearings involving the commmunities in the proposed study areas. But April is almost over, and at a recent meeting, City Plan Commissioner Clarence Gary "left the room in the middle of the meeting," Maute says, and City Plan Commissioner James Prothro "moved to put the discussion off another month."

Maute essentially told the folks gathered this morning, many of them members of the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce economic development committee, that he doesn’t understand the reasons for such inaction. "We want to get feedback to see if this is something that can move forward," he says. "We thought that was simple enough."

We’ll follow up with the plan commissioners and try to find out more.
