We talked about the soon-to-come Coombs Creek Trail in our March cover story — it’s the first of many in Oak Cliff to be constructed and completed over the next few years. The 1.5-mile trail, which runs along the creek starting at Beckley and ending near Hampton, officially opens this Saturday morning amid quite a bit of fanfare.

For starters, Bike Friendly Oak Cliff folks will take off down the trail at 9:15 a.m., followed by an East Kessler Park pooch parade at 9:30 a.m. (registration begins at 9 a.m.). Prizes will be given for: Best Fur Do, Pooch & Peep Look Alike, Best Trick, Visually Challenged (aka Ugliest), Best Dressed and Most Congenial. They will be handed out following the ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., where dignitaries such as Councilman Dave Neumann and representatives from Methodist Health System as well as the city’s park, police and fire departments will be in attendance. Word is that the park department also will be bringing a bounce house for the kids.
