Speaking of Dr. Elba Garcia, today was her last official day in office. This morning the mayor pro tem finished up eight years on city council, leaving office because of the city’s four-term limit, and welcomed Delia Jasso, her former park board appointee, whom Garcia endorsed, to take over her seat. Jasso defeated Justin Epker in the recent June 13 runoff election by roughly 2,700 votes.

It won’t be long before we hear Garcia announce her intention to run for Dallas County commissioner in District 4, a seat currently held by Kenneth Mayfield. Garcia and her husband, Domingo, are in the process of moving four blocks from their current Lake Cliff home, which will position her in Mayfield’s district and out of District 3, over which John Wiley Price, her current neighbor, presides.
