Here’s the Cesar Chavez street-renaming update for today (check out Back Talk here for the background): According to a DMN story, a few council members are feeling a little blue because they weren’t consulted about the possibility of changing the name of Young Street (which runs in front of city hall) to Cesar Chavez Street.

And as expected, the DMN officially said that it didn’t endorse changing the names of streets already named after people, but if it’s the peoples’ will to change the name of the street running in front of the News’ building, so be it.

None of this is official yet, since councilman Steve Salazar — who’s running the traps on this one — hasn’t officially brought it before his council colleagues yet. But he sounds defiant, suggesting that other council members are going to have to "embrace" the renaming process at some point.
