The Oak Park Estates Neighborhood Association is raising money to install sign toppers on its 24 street signs. The neighborhood, which officially formed its association in January 2008, is working to collect $1,750 from its residents, which is half of the total $3,500 needed. The association plans to apply to the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League for a neighborhood grant that would pay for the other half. Oak Park Estates is bordered by Kiest to the north, Pentagon Parkway to the south, Navajo to the east, Rugged to the west, and includes roughly 290 homes. For more information, visit opena.org.

Twelve Hills Nature Center board members and supporters recently celebrated the final payment on the land nestled behind Rosemont Primary’s Chris V. Semos campus, which is now designated as a 5.4-acre urban preserve. The significance of the last payment is that the land “is now held in perpetuity and can never be built on,” says board member Paula Craig. The nature center’s trailhead entrance off Mary Cliff — the only thing that will be built on the land — is also near completion. Visit twelvehills.org for more information.
