Neighborhood student Sam Venker recently was the top reader in classes one through four during Providence Christian School’s 19th annual reading rally, which raises money for the school’s scholarship fund. During a span of four weeks, Sam read for a total of 14,280 minutes. He and other students read to themselves, listened to books aloud with their families, and joined classmates for reading parties. Each student collected pledges from family, friends and businesses for each minute spent reading, or a flat amount.
