Spiral Diner’s executive chef makes delicious vegan food, and he makes movies, too. James M. Johnston‘s short film, "Receive Bacon" will screen at the Lakewood Theater Saturday at 8 p.m. Johnston, who lives in Oak Cliff, shot the film at the Chat Room Pub in Fort Worth.

Also screening is another short film with Dallas roots, "My Mom Smokes Weed," from director Clay Liford. Everyone says it’s really funny, but I haven’t seen it.

The main feature is "Cook County," a full-length feature from Houston-based director David Pomes. It’s about a small-town Texas family with a crystal meth problem, and it’s gotten good reviews and awards from film festivals, including an audience award at the SXSW Film Festival in March.

There will be a Q&A session after the shows with the directors and actor Anson Mount of "Cook County." Admission is $9.
