A recent Virginia Tech study showing that the risk of causing an accident is 23 times higher while text messaging also found that just dialing the phone or reaching for an electronic device increases the chance of a car wreck by as much as 3 percent. The study has prompted Congress to consider a possible nationwide ban on texting while driving. States that didn’t comply with the ban would risk losing 25 percent of their federal road improvement funding.
