Nothing says autumn in Oak Cliff like the scent of Fletcher’s Corny Dogs wafting across the Trinity River. OK, so maybe we can’t smell them from here, but I can taste them already. The State Fair of Texas, in all its fried glory, opens Friday. Avoid shifty parking deals, and avoid parking at Fair Park all together by taking the DART Blue or Red Line trains downtown, then transfer to the Green Line at the West End, St. Paul, Akard or Pearl station. The Green Line stops right in front of Fair Park.

There is a Bridge Party Friday night, but unlike high school, this one won’t have warm Budweiser or monster ballads (we hope). The Trinity Trust is closing the Continental Bridge to throw a fab bash featuring The Boys Named Sue and DJ Lucy Wrubel. It’s a fundraiser for the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge project, and the planned bridge’s architect, Santiago Calatrava, will be there.

Is graffiti a form of artistic expression or an affliction on our community? Council member Delia Jasso might listen to your opinion on this topic if you wake up early Saturday morning and help her wipe out graffiti in Oak Cliff. Volunteer sign-in and breakfast starts at 8 a.m. at the Martin Weiss Recreation Center. The cleanup is from 9-11 a.m.
