Until we wrote about Gloria’s for the Advocate’s "Delicious" feature this month, I never knew that the Salvadoran/Mexican chain started in Oak Cliff. And I learned that owner Gloria Rubio is opening a new location in Austin soon, making it one of the first Oak Cliff-based restaurant to branch outside of the Dallas area.

One off-the-menu item we discovered during the photo shoot was "fruit water," a sugary, non-alcoholic cocktail of fruit-infused water containing bits of apples and other fruit. You can order the refreshing drink by the pitcher or glass.

Gloria’s has several new menu items, including a big salmon salad, which makes a satisfying lunch. But my all-time favorite there is the pupusas with spicy pork and cheese. They go perfectly with margaritas. If you don’t eat pork, try the bean-and-cheese pupusas. Only seven more hours ’til happy hour.
