Dick Seib told Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce members Monday night that discount grocer Aldi last week bought property on Fort Worth Avenue, where it plans to build a store. The grocer is opening about 20 stores in the Dallas area this year, including one at Illinois and Hampton. Aldi, which has the same German owner as Trader Joe’s, bought the old Trinity Bank Building just across the street from Seib’s La Reunion Town Center, which is under construciton.

The town center includes a 198-unit luxury apartment complex for people 55 and older, which is expected to start leasing next month. This summer, construction is expected to begin on "the Orleans", 240 luxury apartments built over retail. Minyard is the only other grocery in the immediate area.
