Here at the Advocate, we write so much about students doing outstanding things, that it sometimes makes me feel like a gigantic underachiever, though, on the bright side, it makes me feel somewhat hopeful about our future.

DISD announced this week a couple opportunities for these good kids to do exciting things that will look super on a college application to boot:

The Bank of America Student Leadership program—designed for exemplary high school juniors and seniors who have a passion for improving their communities—is accepting applications for summer internships. The eight-week paid internship gives students a chance to work with select nonprofit organizations, and the interns also go on a week-long, all-expense paid trip to the Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. in the summer. Applications are available at bankofamerica.com/neistudentleaders, and the deadline is Wednesday, February 17.

"School Zone" auditions are Saturday, Feb 27 at the Administration Building, 3700 Ross Ave., in room 103. To register, students must call 972. 925.3103 or send an email to schoolzone@dallasisd.org. The last day to register is Wednesday, Feb. 24. Cast members must be poised and comfortable on camera or on stage and possess excellent memorization skills.
