KERA’s continuing series on the Trinity River had this zinger buried halfway through a  piece that ran on Wednesday:

"At City Hall, project director Rebecca Rasor acknowledges what some city officials have been a bit reluctant to talk about. She says the parks and lakes could be built without the Trinity Parkway Toll Road. She says the dirt excavated might be used to raise and fatten the levees, or elevate planned soccer fields.

"Rasor: ‘Personally, I think the Parkway is important for traffic congestion and air quality. If for some reason it can’t happen, it’s not going to shut us down. We’ll continue to go.’ "

As near as I can tell, this is the first acknowledgment from city officials that the toll road may not be built — and that if it isn’t, the parks, wilderness areas, and the like will still be built. Which, of course, is the exact opposite of what city officials have been saying for almost three years.
