John Carpenter’s “The Thing” is the first in a series of 7 p.m. weekday film screenings at the Texas Theatre. “The Thing” is a 1982 horror film that has something to do with Antarctica, Norwegians and aliens. I’m pretty sure I watched it on VHS in the summer of ’86.

The line-up also includes “Blood Simple”, Joel & Ethan Coen’s first feature, which screens May 18. Howard Hughes’s “Hell’s Angels” and Martin Scorsese’s “The Aviator” are the May 27 double feature. But I’m most excited about June 3, when they’re screening the Rolling Stones documentary “Gimme Shelter”.
