The new bridge, which is destined to be known as the “Calatrava bridge” after the famous architect who designed it, is starting to emerge from the Trinity River gap. City Council members today signed the inside of a piece of steel that is the center point of the bridge. It reminds me of when you have to sign a group birthday card, and you don’t just want to write, “Happy Birthday!” and your name because that’s what everyone writes, so you try to come up with something clever. I always choke in those situations.
