The Meddlesome Moth, which opened in May, is kind of a big deal. There is some speculation that the restaurant from Flying Saucer founder Shannon Wynne could spark more restaurant and night-life development in the Dallas Design District. That’s technically part of West Dallas and The Moth is fewer than 10 minutes away from my Oak Cliff home by car across the Singleton bridge.

It is in a former tile showroom at Oak Lawn and Hi Line, and the simplistic, modern decor also includes stained glass reclaimed from the old Hard Rock Cafe on McKinney. Their giant depictions of Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and James Brown make everything feel a little less serious.

We went for happy hour, which is Monday-Friday, 4-7 p.m. One of the most remarkable things about The Moth is its beer selection. There are close to 50 draft beers and about 75 bottled beers on the menu, including some that are hard to find, like Old Speckled Hen and Allagash White Ale. There are so many beers that it’s hard to decide what to order. But The Moth offers beer flights for between $10 and $12.

During happy hour, 15 of the draft beers are $4, and on the day we went, one beer — Franconia Kolsch, which is brewed in McKinney  — was $3.

The Moth also has an impressive wine list, and glasses of wine are $6 during happy hour.

For snacks, we just had to try the Pork-A-Holic Platter ($13), which is described as an assortment of four cured swine. I don’t know where they get the swine, but it tasted good. Salami was the big winner, but we also liked the prosciutto, sausage and pork belly. We also ordered the Brazos Valley Cheeses ($14) with honey and almonds, and it wasn’t as good. All the cheeses tasted kind of the same. I would have liked more a diverstiy of cheeses.

The Meddlesome Moth menu is enormous, and I don’t know how I could ever get through it all. But they are open for lucnh, whith a menu ranging from $7 for the Open-Faced Veggie Sandwich to $22 for Steak Frittes. I intend go back for lunch and try the Grilled Cheese with Chilled English Pea Soup ($9.50).
