Tonight, Thursday, July 1, Canadian urban planner Larry Beasley will give a free poolside talk at the Belmont Hotel, starting at 8 p.m. Beasley, who works with the North Texas Chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism, will describe his ideas for a more pedestrian-oriented city and discuss his urban design principles.

On Saturday, Slobberbone front man Brent Best will play with Blue Mountain’s Cary Hudson, to headline a folk music bill at the Kessler Theater. Singer Kate Miner will open at 8 p.m. Jacob Metcalf and the Trinity River Folk also perform. Tickets are $10.

The Belmont Hotel is having a Fourth of July blowout Sunday. It all starts with the usual Sunday pool party with DJs Jennifer Miller and Paul Paredes from noon-5 p.m. A concert from Shoot Low Sheriff starts at 7 p.m. and is $5.

The city’s fireworks show was almost canceled, but now it’s scheduled for Monday, July 5 at Fair Park.
