“The Dallas Nine & Their Circle” is the title of the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts annual wine and art event, which is Saturday at Turner House.
The Dallas Nine, which actually grew to include more than nine artists, was a group that rejected European tradition and went with a new style of art intended to capture the realities of everyday life during the Great Depression.
Paintings from private collections in the exhibit will include work from Jerry Bywaters (who is famous for his “Oilfield Girls”), Alexandre Hogue, Everett Spruce and Otis Dozier.
Sam Ratcliffe, head of the Bywaters Special Collection of the Harmon Arts Library at SMU, will give a talk about the Dallas Nine and their impact on Texas art. Tickets for the 6 p.m. gallery talk, exhibit and reception are $65 for members and $75 otherwise. It’s $40 for members and $50 otherwise for the 7 p.m. exhibit and reception only.
