Gloria’s is an Oak Cliff original. When Gloria Rubio and her husband, Jose Fuentes, opened a restaurant in the converted Shell station at Davis and Llewellyn in 1987, most Dallasites didn’t know what a pupusa was.

Since then, the Salvadoran/Mexican restaurant has put down roots in every corner of DFW, including the ones on Lemmon and Lower Greenville, plus Arlington, Fort Worth and six other locations.

Two years ago, it was the first Oak Cliff-based restaurant to expand out of the area when a Gloria’s opened in Austin.

The owners have decided it’s time to close the original location. But now Oak Cliff is going to have the most glorious Gloria’s of all. The company bought Fire Station No. 15, the converted office/residential building on Bishop at Davis.

They also bought the adjacent lot for parking, and the new restaurant is expected to open in January.

We love that a media release calls it “the new Number One location” because we’re still No. 1, y’all. The new Gloria’s will feature  a rooftop patio with skyline views, dining and lounge seating and “fountains which integrate fire and water together,” plus the design will integrate historical features, such as the brass fireman’s pole.
