1301 W. Davis, installed wooden beehives, making it the first Oak Cliff market to sell honey made in our neighborhood.

Monica Greene, a local restaurateur of Monica’s Aca y Alla in Deep Ellum, has leased the former Quinn building on West Davis near Zang for a new concept called, BEE — “Best Enchiladas Ever”— in a fast-food style restaurant.

Lockhart Smokehouse
is slated to open early next year at 400 W. Davis. The owners have ties to Lockhart, Texas, the so-called barbecue capital of Texas.

Norma’s Café,
1123 W. Davis, is offering free breakfast to veterans on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, from 6-10:30 a.m. The café also printed 5,000 postcards, and from Nov. 1-15 customers are encouraged to write a message of gratitude that will be mailed to troops overseas.

The Oak Cliff Cultural Center is calling for art entries for a new exhibit that will reflect the diverse history of our neighborhood. The work must be created in Oak Cliff or inspired by Oak Cliff. The application deadline is Nov. 2. To apply, visit dallasculture.org.

Friends of Oak Cliff Parks are looking for volunteers for an annual clean-up in the Kiest Park Memorial Garden on Saturday, Nov. 13, starting at 8 a.m. Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves, hats, sunblock, shovels, clippers, loppers, wheelbarrows, rakes, comfortable shoes and gardening clothes. People

Neighborhood resident Bill Velasco has been re-elected chairman of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Board of Directors. Fellow board members first chose Velasco as chairman in 2009. He has served on the board since 2001. He is the owner of Velasco Tax and Insurance of Dallas, and is past president of La Calle Diez Community Corp., and a founding member of the Winnetka Heights Historical District and the Oak Cliff Development Corp. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of Dallas CAN! Academy, and is currently on the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
