Many of you may be wondering why restaurants in Oak Cliff continue to “swipe” your drivers license in order for you to get wine or beer with your food.
One answer: The private club license that most OC restaurants have is for a two-year period, and the fee for that license cannot be refunded if the restaurant applies for a new permit under the TABC “on-premises” rules.
If the restaurant got its private club license recently, it may not want to see the fee go to waste, so to speak. So, some restaurants will continue to operate as a private club until their private club license expires and, at that time, they will apply for a new permit that will not require the swipe.
