Lockhart Smokehouse opens at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to its Twitter feed. This is the one at Davis and Bishop, whose owners are from the family that owns Kreuz Marktet in Lockhart. The Texas BBQ Posse has pictures.

And it looks like Luckie’s, which has constructed a big covered patio at the converted gas station across Clinton from the Kessler Theater, could open any day now.

Plus, the Dallas Morning News had a story this weekend about Bronx native Walter Williams, who had a hard-knock life, played in the NFL, lost money in the 80’s New Mexico real estate market and finally had success with Sweet Georgia Brown, a buffet-style barbecue joint he opened about 20 years ago on Ledbetter.

Williams won a Quest for Success award from the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce. And he has plans to expand his business to Red Bird. The new place, Sweet Georgia Mae’s, would be more of a market like Eatzi’s.
