Yes, there is bacon crumbled atop that mac & cheese.

Two new barbecue places are opening soon on West Davis. Lockhart Smokehouse opened its doors Saturday to offer samples of it smoked meat. But an official opening date hasn’t been set yet.

Luckie’s Smokehouse is getting close to opening as well.

We had a hankering for barbecue Saturday, so we tried Pecan Lodge, in Shed 2 at the Dallas Farmers Market. The BBQ Snob Daniel Vaughn of Full Custom Gospel Barbecue says Pecan Lodge has the best brisket in Dallas. Having tasted barbecue at more than 150 Dallas area barbecue joints, he would know.

I’ve probably only eaten at six barbecue joints in Dallas, but I can see what Vaughn is talking about. Pecan Lodge’s brisket has a peppery crust, a fat pink smoke ring and just a little fat. The barbecue plate ($9.99) comes with three pork ribs and a side. The rib meat fell off the bones. It was tender and delicious. For a side, I ordered “Mmmmac & Cheese” with roasted chilies and crumbled bacon.

Pecan Lodge is open for breakfast and lunch on the weekends and for lunch Monday-Friday. Other menu items include a fried chicken plate and  “The Hot Mess”, a sweet potato stuffed with brisket, butter, cream and cheese.

For weekend breakfast, they offer Belgian waffles, fried chicken and huevos rancheros, among other breakfast items.
