Advocate photo editor, Turk, sat down with barbecue reviewer Daniel Vaughn to Oak Cliff’s Lockhart Smokehouse for an interview recently.
Vaughn, who lives in East Dallas, brings the smoked meat truth through his website, fullcustomgospelbbq.com, where he has reviewed hundreds of barbecue joints in the Dallas area and all over Texas.
The name of Vaughn’s blog was inspired, sort of by accident, by another East Dallas resident — the Reverent Horton Heat. One of that band’s most famous albums is “The Full Custom Gospel Sounds of The Reverend Horton Heat”. Vaughn says his former partner in the blog thought up the name without realizing he was borrowing from the Rev. But it’s a great album, and Vaughn says he often jams it during his barbecue road trips.
