You guys, there is so much going on in Oak Cliff this weekend! Let’s get to it.
Tonight, Feb. 10, at 6 p.m., there is a fundraiser for Sunset and Adamson high schools at Luckie’s, one of the new barbecue places on West Davis. A $25 suggested donation will go toward band equipment at Sunset and medals and trophies for year-end sports banquets at Adamson. You can make donations online or by cash or check at the door. The restaurant also will unveil a mural, featuring Oak Cliff celebrities, including county commissioner Elba Garcia, community activist Jason Roberts, hat designer Cassie MacGregor, Oak Cliff Chamber president Bob Stimpson and Good Space owner Dave Spence.
Many Oak Cliff restaurants are offering special menus for Valentine’s Day this weekend. I’ve already fantasy ordered from Bolsa (I’m pretending to have the foie gras, onion soup, beef cheeks and chevre-blue cheese cheese cake with tomato marmalade). Norma’s has a $29.99 couples special that includes an appetizer sampler, two entrees (Monterrey chicken or rib eye steak) and four-layer red velvet cake for dessert. Decanter has a three-course prix fixe menu for $40 per person. Be sure to call your favorite restaurant to ask about V-Day specials.
If you’re still shopping for a Valentine’s Day gift, check out Cliff Notes Prolonged Media at West Davis and Clinton. Pay with cash and get a 20 percent discount Friday and Saturday. Cliff Notes also hosts its monthly poetry reading from 8-10 p.m. Friday at Mighty Fine Arts.
Several events, including the Valentine’s Day party at House of MacGregor Friday and the “My Dinner with Andre” and CocoAndré event at the Texas Theatre Monday, are listed in our Valentine’s Day gift guide.
The Texas Theatre is showing “Texas Legends Before They Were Legends”, a collection of early short films from the state’s most famous filmmakers, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Oak Cliff-based artist Lisa Lindholm opens an exhibit, “(un)natural”, at the Magnolia Gallery Friday from 8-11 p.m.
CocoAndré hosts its second chocolate art show from 7-10 p.m. Friday. Chocolart 2 features work from chocolatier Andrea Pedraza and Oak Cliff natives the Davies brothers – Joshua, Jerod and Isaac.
Miss Marcy performs at Bar Belmont 7-10 p.m. Friday.
Sweetheart singers Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis perform at the Kessler Theater Saturday. Tickets are $25.
On Sunday at 2 p.m., 75208 cycling group hosts “Be My Velotine”, a leisurely group ride starting at Main Street Garden Park.
