“Hello, Smoke.  I love you.”

I was recently introduced to an Oak Cliff neighborhood eatery that has everything I have ever wanted in a restaurant. Saying “I love you” too soon in any relationship whether it be boyfriend/girlfriend or patron/restaurant can be dangerous. In this instance, the only danger is over-eating during an incredible dining experience. One of Smoke’s featured dishes is the big rib. This beef rib is about the size of my forearm and is smoked in house for 15 hours. Talk about “fall off the bone” and “melt in your mouth”.

Smoke is a part of The Belmont Hotel, and was named because of its smokehouse menu and down-home environment. Chef and co-owner Tim Byers, formally of Stephen Pyles, has hit the jackpot with this menu. My favorite appetizer: pimento cheese croquettes. Fried pimento cheese. Are you kidding me, chef? Brilliant. Also topping my list, are the cast iron sea scallops with white beans. They are simple, mild, and oh so delectable.

But this place doesn’t do just lunch and dinner. Smoke’s weekend brunch is the perfect marriage of your favorite breakfast foods with a hearty lunch. My absolute favorite breakfast ever made is their smoked brisket cornbread hash with a poached egg on top. Once the yolk is broken and mixed into the hash…wow. Pardon my drool. I only wish they served it all day long.

Hearty yes, but also healthy enough to feel good about taking your kids to partake as well.  My daughter’s menu item of choice is the cheese and tomato quesadilla with fresh tomatoes from out back. Yes, you heard me correctly. This restaurant has its own garden in the back to incorporate truly fresh ingredients. They also make all four of their barbeque sauce variations in house.

This is currently my favorite restaurant in Dallas and is a must try.
