The newly-opened Mesa, just a half block east of the newly-vibrant Texas Theater, is another reason to visit Jefferson Boulevard. It touts Veracruz-style Mexican food (think seafood), but it also serves good mole with duck and tasty braised ox-tail (you don’t see that very often). But with plantains, tamal and banana leaf on the menu, I also think of Salvadoran cuisine. The décor is stylish and the service attentive. With a full bar and interesting, but short, wine list, it is definitely worth checking out.
