This weekend saw the grand openings of 2 new retail stores in Oak Cliff, one on Davis and one just around the corner from Bishop Arts.  Being a “wino”, my favorite was Chelsmati’s Wine Shop, only a few steps west of Urban Acres on Davis.  Owner Tina Acosta features wines from South America (after a tasting on Saturday, I bought an Uma Malbec from Argentina) but wines from around the world are available, all at reasonable prices.  And the shop sells beer, oils and vinegars, wine accessories and gifts too.  Hope this neighborhood wine store can attract a loyal following.

The other new shop is Salvage House Btq., operated by fashionista Tracy Popken, in a house at the corner of Melba@Madison.  Not only does Tracy sell her unique dresses (some salvaged from vintage fabrics) at this boutique but she has found some interesting furniture and decorative accessories to sell at her “salvage house.”  The furniture is grouped in well-edited settings so shoppers should be able to “picture” how something might look in their house too.  Incidentally, guys can also use her sewing skills, she recently restored my dad’s WW II bomber jacket.
