Roy Salinas was a beloved member of Bike Friendly Oak Cliff and the Oak Cliff running club. He was so popular and loving that during a gathering of friends on the day after his death last week, everyone there thought he or she was his best friend.

Salinas was killed in a drunken driving incident on Cole at Fitzhugh June 28.

“Roy was a guy that you could call if you ever needed help. He would be there, no matter the time or the job,” says Rob Schearer of Go Oak Cliff. He was known for his personal style and rarely was seen without a bow tie or hat and his trademark glasses. He had a beautiful home in Elmwood “that would have made Martha Stewart proud,” Shearer says.

A memorial celebration for Salinas is from 7-9 p.m. Friday on the lawn by the Belmont Hotel pool.
