The galleries and businesses in the Tyler/Davis area are throwing a block party from 4-10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. The party is to celebrate the opening of Tom Battles’ new picture-framing studio on Tyler. And there’s a lot happening in that neighborhood.

Gallery Bomb, the new low-brow art gallery, is opening its first show, “Sugar Coated Memories” from artist Loretta Gonzalez. Incense & Peppermints will have live music from 6-9 p.m. Oil & Cotton will be celebrating its new Back Porch Studio, designed and built by the shop’s students under the direction of architect Alfred Pena. And CocoAndré Chocolatier will debut its new product, Pure Nacional Fortunato No. 4 chocolate bars and truffles, from 7-9 p.m.
