The Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce presented its annual awards during a ceremony at the Bishop Arts Theater Center Dec. 9.
Kessler Theater won business of the year. Theater owner Edwin Cabaniss (second from left) also has won awards from Preservation Dallas and the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League for his work in renovating the old movie theater, now a live music venue, art gallery, music and dance school, bar and restaurant.
The Oak Cliff Mardi Gras parade won event of the year. The parade, which Kings Highway resident Amy Cowan (second from right) started in 2009, grows every year. The parade this past February drew thousands of people from all over North Texas.
Real estate broker Mark Miranda won advocate of the year. Miranda has donated thousands of dollars to neighborhood schools.
County Commissioner Elba Garcia won public servant of the year.
The newly renovated Stevens Park Golf Course won new business/development of the year.
The presidents award went to Lang Partners, which developed Zang Triangle, the first new apartments built in Oak Cliff in over 10 years.
The chairman’s award went to Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
