Dallas ISD invited a nonprofit, Reading Partners, to help elementary school students in kindergarten through second grade improve their reading skills.

The California-based organization is starting with two DISD schools, including Roger Q. Mills, which is just outside the neighborhood.

Reading Partners facilitates one-on-one tutoring between volunteers and students, and they are recruiting volunteers for the program at Mills.

Volunteers work one-hour sessions between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday-Thursday. They must be at least 14, so it could be an opportunity for a home-schooled teen. Reading Partners has a curriculum that takes tutors through a step-by-step tutoring regimen, and they provide books and worksheets.
