A: She plays in the dirt every day.

Mycobacterium vaccae is a mood-boosting bacteria present in dirt.  Your skin is a sponge, absorbing everything you come in contact with.  Once in the body, the mood-boosting bacteria acts as an antidepressant by increasing serotonin levels.  It is also said to increase cognitive levels too!  What started as an alternative treatment to lung cancer, has proven yet again that playing in the dirt is a fun and healthy activity.

Tick Tock Tick Tock – Potatoes and Onions

Time is going fast this year.  We are approaching the end of the planting season for potatoes and onions.  Repotted has potato seeds for $1 per pound and a fantastic plan to grow 100 pounds of potatoes in a 4X4 square foot space.  Potatoes are a great source of vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber.

They have onion sets too!  Two kinds, sweet yellow and purple.  Is there anything you wouldn’t put onion on?  Onions are not only a good source of vitamins and minerals, but also an antioxidant flavonoid called quecertin.  Quercetin acts as an anti-inflammatory in the body.  If your sinuses are swollen, you could eat an onion; or chop it and put in a pan of water on the stove and inhale the steam.

Rosemary Potatoes with Onions

½ teaspoon sea salt

  1.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix all ingredients in a 13X9 pan.
  3. Bake in oven for 20-25 minutes, when the potatoes start to brown. Enjoy!
