Neighborhood resident Julie McCullough Kim’s Pin Show returns Thursday, Feb. 23,  after a one-year absence. Kim, who owns IndieGenius and Make and Made, started the fashion show in 2008 as a way to give local fashion designers an outlet.

The Pin Show features what Kim calls “slow fashion,” an antidote to the outsourced, disposable fashions that abound. To enter the show, designers must prove that their clothes are created entirely in their local economies, from design, to pattern-making to sewing.

The first Pin Show, at the Gypsy Tea Room, drew a crowd three times larger than expected, so Kim moved it to Union Station in 2010. Kim teamed up with Brian Embry, owner and director of the Ross Akard Gallery, to produce this year’s event, which is in The Fairmont Hotel’s Regency Ballroom.

Tickets to the show, from 7-10:30 p.m., start at $18.
