An Austin-based nonprofit that advocates for the rights of day laborers and migrant workers plans to open its first Dallas branch in Oak Cliff in September.

Workers Defense Project will take office space inside Christ Episcopal Church in time for Labor Day.

Executive director Cristina Tzintzun says the nonprofit is expanding to Dallas because it has received so many calls for help from Dallas workers.

“Most workers in Dallas have no place to turn,” she says.
