Sit a spell: The Möbius bench, functional public art on Fort Worth Ave.

Installed today on Forth Worth Avenue at Pittman is the Möbius bench, created from repurposed materials by artists Nicole Horn and Erik Glissman.

The two won $6,000 from Spare Parts, a design contest from the Fort Worth Avenue Development Group, and spent about 180 hours constructing the bench.

As I was checking it out today, a guy walked by and said, “Hey, is that a bus stop?” It’s not a bus stop, but wouldn’t it be cool if there were bus stops like this?

A fundraiser for the next Spare Parts contest is Sept. 22 at the forthcoming Four Corners Brewing Co. on Singleton. And a reception for the artists is planned for 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at The Foundry.
