Zan Wesley Holmes Jr. Middle School‘s dedication ceremony takes place Friday, Oct. 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the school, located at 2939 St. Rita. The school’s choir, band and dancers will perform. Zan Wesley Holmes Jr. Middle is part of the 2008 bond program that is building and renovating Dallas ISD schools.

The school is named in honor of Zan Wesley Holmes Jr., a civil rights activist and Methodist pastor. Holmes served in the House of Representatives–he was one of the first African Americans in the House–and later oversaw Dallas ISD desegregation.
