Almost 49 years after he was killed on an Oak Cliff street corner by Lee Harvey Oswald, Dallas police officer J.D. Tippit received formal recognition here for his service.
A historical marker is in place at Tenth and Patton, where Tippit was killed less than an hour after the JFK assassination. The Dallas school district, police department, the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League and the Texas Historical Commission held a ceremony to dedicate the new marker Tuesday.
Tippit’s widow, Marie, was on hand to unveil the marker with police chief David Brown. Advocate photographer Danny Fulgencio brought us these photos from the ceremony.
