This weekend: Heeere’s Johnny, jiu jitsu, penguins

shiningposterThe Texas Theatre is screening “The Shining” Thursday-Sunday Jan. 24-27. Friday is bartender Susie’s birthday party. The theater also is screening “Beware of Mr. Baker,” a documentary about drummer Ginger Baker, Friday-Sunday and Tuesday. A comedy show behind the screen Saturday starts at 11 p.m.

The Kessler Theater has Mike Dillon and Earl Harvin tonight, Jan. 24. The Gourds perform Friday, Jan. 25. And Terry Allen performs with special guest Carrie Rodriguez Saturday, Jan. 26.

Paragon Jiu Jitsu hosts a grand opening in its new space on West Davis, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26.

Oil and Cotton hosts a cyanotype workshop Saturday and a wet felting workshop Sunday. They cost $75 and $65, respectively.

As of now, the high temperature is supposed to be 69 on Sunday. That might be a good time to take advantage of the Dallas Zoo’s “penguin days,” which offers $5 admission through February.
