Here’s the description:

The discussion will trace the evolution of Texas art from the latter half of the 20th Century through the present.  Reaves will examine the themes and influences which distinguish Texas artists and sets their work apart as a unique brand of American art.

The event will kick off a week-long display of work from artist/architect/violin maker Jack Erwin, who died at 88 in 2009.

From Erwin’s obituary:

While Jack Erwin had numerous art shows throughout the nation, Dallas was his home. Jack recorded the history and events of Dallas, Fort Worth and surrounding cities with his beautiful paintings. His scenic, plein-air paintings of the life and landscape in Texas were exhibited throughout the state, including the Dallas Art Museum and Dallas Public Library.

Two other events on the salon series calendar are a performance by Oak Cliff-based singer-songwriter Floramay Holliday in March and a talk in April with architect Marcel Quimby. Quimby will discuss “revitalization of neighborhoods, preservation of mid-century architecture and what can be learned from preservation successes and failures.”

Each salon costs $15 for Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts members and $20 otherwise. Tickets for the whole series cost $35 for members and $50 otherwise.
