The Jefferson Viaduct becomes a two-way street with bike lanes Monday, March 11, as the Houston Street bridge closes for streetcar construction. The Jefferson bridge closes for striping and reconfiguration at 9 p.m. Friday, March 8, and reopens at 5 a.m. Monday.

Houston Street will be closed from Young to Zang. Commuters from Oak Cliff to downtown can use the Marsalis entry to the Jefferson bridge as there will be no access from Zang to the Jefferson bridge.

The Jefferson bridge is where my buddy was blindsided by a neglectful driver and seriously injured last year. I am afraid every time I ride over it. Could this temporary configuration slow traffic and create an actual safe way to get to downtown from Oak Cliff on a bike? Bicycle commuters will let us know what they think next week.
