Located in the burgeoning Bishop Arts District of Dallas [Editor’s note: Close enough, right?], OCFF showcases innovative and independent moviemaking of all stripes—from locally-made films to international works. The fest is held at Oak Cliff’s top-shelf theater venues, including the historic Texas Theatre, the Kessler Theater, and the Belmont Hotel. The fest offers free airfare, lodging and transportation for out-of-town moviemakers, as well as a wealth of networking opportunities with industry professionals. Last year the fest gave away a bicycle, two custom-made wooden belt buckles, and “as much film-related gear/swag as we could find.”

Oak Cliff Film Festival also is the No. 1 film festival worth the VIP badge in Oak Cliff. Last year, the festival’s inaugural year, the badge offered entry to a concert and music-video screening at El Sibil, a garden party with complimentary cocktails at Turner House, closing ceremonies at the Dallas Zoo, and a ton of great films.

This year’s festival is June 6-9, and entries are still being accepted.
